A summary seeking the ban on Tehreek-e-Labbaik Pakistan (TLP) has been approved during the cabinet session on Thursday.
TLP, a hardline religious political party known for its stances on blasphemy laws and frequent violent protests, is officially banned.

Earlier, the Punjab provincial cabinet approved a ban on the TLP and forwarded the summary to the federal government for final implementation. The federal cabinet made a decision today regarding the ban.

Now a reference will be filed in the Supreme Court of Pakistan, which will take the final decision on the party’s legal status.
The TLP is a registered political party with the Election Commission of Pakistan and has participated in elections.
The 2021 ban was lifted as part of an agreement after a series of violent protests.
