The Sindh government has issued a surrender policy for dacoits in the riverine areas (Kacha), under which the dacoits are being encouraged to lay down their arms.
According to the notification issued by the Sindh Home Department, the policy will be applicable in the Kacha areas of Sukkur and Larkana divisions, and those who surrender will have to face legal proceedings under the law.
The Sindh Home Department stated that the surrender policy is not a declaration of general amnesty; the dacoits who lay down their arms and surrender will face cases. It will be clarified through the media that this policy is for peace, not for pardon.
The statement said that weapons and explosives will be recovered from the dacoits who surrender, and the families of those surrendering will not be harassed under any circumstances.
Educational, health, and welfare facilities will be provided for children and women in the Kacha areas. Closed schools and dispensaries will be gradually restored, and surrendered dacoits will be given technical training and employment opportunities.
The Sindh Home Department has established monitoring committees for the implementation of the surrender policy and also set up a redressal cell within the department.
The provincial Home Department said that social and economic development projects will be initiated in the Kacha areas, the policy will be reviewed monthly, and amendments will be made according to ground realities. Along with the police, district and divisional committees will also supervise.
