The Secretary of Law and the Additional Attorney General briefed the sub-committee on ongoing court cases related to outstanding dues.
Earlier, the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) had issued determination orders after conducting hearings, but several LDI companies obtained stay orders from the courts against these decisions.
During the meeting, the committee examined proposals submitted by LDI firms. Most of the companies reportedly agreed to pay the principal amounts in installments, while some said they were awaiting court rulings even on the principal dues. Officials clarified that the authority to decide on installment payments lies with the Ministry of IT, not the PTA.
Committee members emphasized the need for the government to speed up judicial proceedings in such matters. They observed that the formation of a Telecom Tribunal could have facilitated quicker resolution of these financial disputes. Officials further explained that the Ministry of Law is responsible for appointing the Tribunal’s chairman and members.
