Former Prime Minister and Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) founder Imran Khan has said that he should be released on parole so he can help resolve the Afghanistan issue through dialogue and peace efforts.
Speaking to the media outside Adiala Jail, his sister Noreen Khan conveyed Imran Khan’s message, stating that he expressed sorrow and concern over the recent incident involving a religious party, and urged the authorities to form a judicial commission to investigate that and four other major incidents, including May 9.
Imran Khan also directed his party workers to hold peaceful protests in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa on Friday.
Regarding Afghanistan, the PTI founder said that it is Pakistan’s neighboring country where conflict has persisted for 45 years, and the forced repatriation of Afghan refugees who had lived in Pakistan for three generations was deeply painful.
“Expelling them so suddenly and forcefully will only create resentment in their hearts against us,” Imran Khan said.
He added that politicians should take the lead in addressing issues between Pakistan and Afghanistan rather than leaving them to others.
“Release me on parole — I will work to bring peace between the two countries,” he said.
It is worth noting that, at the request of the Afghan Taliban, Pakistan has agreed to a 48-hour ceasefire, effective from 6 p.m. today, as confirmed by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
