Indian media reports that this action was taken following reports claiming that the deaths of children in Madhya Pradesh were linked to the use of cough syrup. However, according to test results, none of the samples contained Diethylene Glycol (DEG) or Ethylene Glycol (EG).
The absence of Diethylene Glycol or Ethylene Glycol—substances that cause severe kidney damage—has been confirmed. Furthermore, in one blood sample, a case of Leptospirosis was detected, according to Indian media.
Further investigations are underway into water, insects, and respiratory samples. A team of experts is examining all possible causes, while it has been advised that children under 2 years of age should not be prescribed cough and cold medicines.
