A major development has surfaced in Lahore’s high-profile murder case of Ameer Balaj Tipu, where the prime suspect Khawaja Tareef Gulshan alias Taifi Butt has been arrested from Dubai. According to police, the arrest was made with the help of Interpol, and Taifi Butt will soon be transferred to Pakistan.
According to sources, after the murder of Ameer Balaj Tipu, Taifi Butt had absconded and gone into hiding abroad.
A special team of Punjab Police, in cooperation with Interpol, carried out the operation and succeeded in arresting him from Dubai. Officials have confirmed that the legal process of handing over the suspect to Pakistan is underway, and he will soon be moved to Lahore.
On the other hand, Taifi Butt’s cousin and co-accused, Gogi Butt, has already obtained interim bail.
In August, a Lahore court extended the pre-arrest bail of Khawaja Aqeel alias Gogi Butt until September 1 and directed him to cooperate with the police. The case is being investigated at the Chung police station, where the original FIR was registered.
It may be recalled that on February 19, 2024, Ameer Balaj Tipu, son of Arif Ameer alias Tipu Truckanwala, was shot dead at a wedding ceremony in the Chung area of Lahore.
According to police, Balaj Tipu was attacked by an armed assailant, leaving him critically injured. He later succumbed to his injuries during treatment. In the same incident, three others were injured, while the attacker was killed in retaliatory firing.
Investigations revealed that after the murder, Taifi Butt fled abroad from Karachi, while Gogi Butt remained in Lahore. Both were declared proclaimed offenders by police.
Later, a JIT report revealed that Gogi Butt, in collaboration with Taifi Butt, had planned the murder and remained in constant contact with him. The JIT declared Gogi Butt guilty and also recommended cancellation of his bail.
This incident is being considered part of Lahore’s notorious gang culture and long-standing rivalries between powerful families. Police officials say that the arrest of Taifi Butt will prove to be an important milestone in the case, and further revelations are expected after his extradition to Pakistan.
