The most beloved show in the history of medical drama series, Grey’s Anatomy returns for its twenty-second season on Thursday, October 9, 2025, on ABC.
The new season will immediately address the massive cliffhanger from the Season 21 finale: the catastrophic hospital explosion that rocked Grey Sloan Memorial.
The official synopsis for the premiere, titled “Only the Strong Survive,” confirms the staff will be scrambling to save lives amidst the devastation, confronting “impossible surgical decisions and emotional turmoil.”

While original stars Chandra Wilson (Dr. Miranda Bailey) and James Pickens Jr. (Dr. Richard Webber) are confirmed for every episode, Ellen Pompeo will continue in her reduced capacity, narrating the season and appearing in a handful of episodes.
