KABUL: Taliban Deputy Prime Minister Mullah Abdul Ghani Baradar Akhund met with a U.S. delegation led by Adam Boehler, Special Envoy for Hostage Affairs to former U.S. President Donald Trump.
During the meeting, Adam Boehler praised Afghanistan’s economic progress and stressed the need for further development and engagement between the United States and Afghanistan. He also expressed Washington’s desire to cooperate and invest in Afghanistan’s economic sector.
Mullah Baradar urged the United States to adopt a policy of engagement rather than confrontation in Afghanistan, play its role in the country’s reconstruction, and take advantage of the investment opportunities available in various sectors.
Referring to the sanctions imposed on Afghanistan by the U.S. and the international community, the deputy prime minister said these restrictions have prevented the country from achieving its full potential for development.
He added that by adopting a balanced, economy-focused foreign policy, Afghanistan has managed to establish strong political and economic relations with some countries.
Baradar underlined that investment across multiple sectors is essential for Afghanistan and said the Islamic Emirate has created favorable conditions for both domestic and foreign investors.
