YUNNAN, CHINA — A woman in Yuxi, Yunnan province, unexpectedly became a millionaire after taking shelter from heavy rain inside a lottery shop.
According to Chinese media reports, the woman, whose name has not been disclosed, was caught in a sudden downpour while walking on the street. To protect her clothes from getting drenched, she stepped inside a lottery store.
While waiting for the rain to stop, she casually asked the shopkeeper if scratch cards were available, saying: “Since I’m stuck here because of the rain, why not play the lottery for a while?”
Unlike weekly or monthly draws, scratch cards allow instant results. The woman bought 30 tickets worth 900 yuan. To her surprise, by the sixth ticket, she had won 10 million yuan — nearly 40 million Pakistani rupees.
Recalling the moment, she told reporters: “My hands and feet suddenly went weak. I had never imagined that rainwater would change my destiny like this.”
She revealed that she occasionally bought scratch cards but had no intention of doing so that day, except for the unexpected rain after lunch.
After her win, she gifted the shop owner a cash-filled envelope and a silk banner as a token of gratitude. However, she requested anonymity, choosing not to share her story on social media.
