There is a high-level flood in the Indus River at the location of Taunsa Barrage, and destruction has occurred in the riverine areas of Kot Addu due to the flood. Dozens of settlements have been severely affected where water has entered homes.
According to details, the land connection of more than 5 areas of Kot Addu with other regions has been cut off. The road connecting a population of more than 50,000 people with the city has been washed away in the floodwater.
According to the information received so far, flood victims in Kot Addu are forced to migrate on a self-help basis. Rescue operations have been initiated by the authorities to help the flood victims.
It should be remembered that the effects of climate change are badly affecting Pakistan, especially this time in the mountainous regions of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa where there has been significant loss of life and property. The spell of rains is still continuing. Although relief efforts are ongoing, it is becoming difficult to overcome the destruction because damaged roads and bridges are creating obstacles for relief work.
Due to the recent monsoon rains, the northern and central regions of Punjab are also affected. Particularly, the usually dry Ravi and Sutlej rivers have created flood situations that have impacted areas up to Bahawalnagar and Muzaffargarh.
Floodwater has entered not only the crops but also the homes in villages. Sutlej has damaged most of the land of district Kasur, adjacent to Lahore, while the Ravi — which turned into a river from a sewage drain — has also damaged the factories and homes built in the riverbed.
