KARACHI: A local court has directed police to register a murder case over the mysterious death of actress and model Humaira Asghar, whose decomposed body was discovered in a Defence Housing Authority (DHA) apartment last month.
In its ruling, the Additional District and Sessions Judge (South) held that available evidence and the police report established grounds for a cognisable offence.
The court instructed that an FIR be lodged, either on behalf of the state or the victim’s family.
The petitioner’s counsel argued that Humaira Asghar’s mobile phone remained active until February 2025, months after her reported death on October 7, raising serious suspicions.
He further alleged that her WhatsApp display picture was deleted, calls went unanswered, and her makeup artist—who reportedly had possession of the phone—failed to cooperate.
The counsel urged the court to summon Asghar’s brother and others for questioning, also pointing out forensic findings of blood traces in her room and washroom.
The post-mortem examination added to the mystery, leaving the cause of death undetermined.
According to Police Surgeon Dr. Summaiya Syed, Humaira Asghar’s body had decomposed over eight to ten months before being discovered. By then, it was in an advanced state of decay, rendering identification and determination of cause difficult.
The autopsy reported that facial muscles had disintegrated, fingers and nails had turned skeletal, and much of the muscle tissue was missing.
Internal organs had collapsed into a blackened mass, with the brain undergoing complete autolysis.
While the spine and skull were intact, the spinal cord was missing. Insects were found in the hair, though no maggots were present. Importantly, no fractures were detected in the skeletal structure.
