Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg, one of the world’s wealthiest individuals, believes smart glasses will eventually replace smartphones.
Whether or not that vision materializes remains to be seen, but it raises an interesting question: what smartphone does Zuckerberg himself use? Is it an Apple iPhone or does he prefer an Android device? The answer is quite intriguing—Zuckerberg appears to favor Android phones.
In September 2024, he was seen holding a smartphone from South Korean tech giant Samsung during a public event. While it remains unclear which specific model he prefers, there’s a clear reason why he avoids using iPhones.
Several years ago, Apple CEO Tim Cook publicly criticized Zuckerberg, accusing Facebook (as Meta was then known) of failing to uphold user privacy, which he called a fundamental human right.
Following this criticism, The New York Times reported in 2018 that Zuckerberg instructed Meta employees to abandon iPhones and switch to Android devices instead.
Later, in a 2020 video, Zuckerberg revealed that he’s a long-time fan of Samsung smartphones and has been using Android devices for years, though he didn’t specify a particular model. Since then, he has often been spotted using phones from the same company.
Given Meta’s strategic partnerships with the South Korean tech firm in recent years, Zuckerberg’s preference for Samsung phones isn’t particularly surprising.
In the same 2020 interview, Zuckerberg noted that billions of people around the world use Android to access Facebook’s services, making Android not only essential to Meta’s global operations but also a natural choice for its CEO.
