In yet another tragic incident of street crime in Karachi, a young man was shot dead during a robbery in Orangi Town after resisting armed assailants—marking the 50th fatality from such incidents this year.
The victim, Jibran Khan, had returned from Saudi Arabia just 13 days ago to attend his father’s funeral.
According to details, the incident occurred near Qaddafi Chowk, Kala Maidan, in Sector 1 of Orangi Town, where two motorcycle-riding suspects opened fire on Jibran. His body was transported to Abbasi Shaheed Hospital by a Chhipa ambulance.
Karachi Police confirmed the victim’s identity as 25-year-old Jibran Khan, son of Jama Khan. The shooting occurred during a robbery when Jibran resisted the suspects.
Jibran, who was unmarried, was the second of six siblings and had been working in Jeddah for the past two and a half years, along with his younger brother. The two had returned to Karachi on a one-month leave to attend their father’s funeral on the first of Muharram. Jibran was employed in the food delivery sector abroad.
At the time of the incident, there was a power outage in the area. Jibran was sitting outside his residence, House No. 204, with a local ice vendor when the suspects arrived and began looting them.
He handed over one phone and his wallet, but the other phone remained in his pocket. When Jibran resisted, one of the suspects shot him in the throat; the bullet exited from the back. He died on the spot.
News of Jibran’s death devastated his family, already mourning the recent loss of their father.
His grieving sisters, younger brother, and other relatives were seen wailing outside their home, which had turned into a scene of heartbreak and anguish. Local residents also expressed deep sorrow and outrage, directing their anger at the authorities for failing to curb the growing menace of street crime.
Jibran’s cousin, Qasim, appealed to higher authorities, stating that criminals have destroyed countless families and no one—except perhaps those in power—is safe in the city.
He warned that if immediate action is not taken, Karachi will become a graveyard, urging the government to take decisive measures before more lives are lost.
