Russian Deputy Prime Minister Alexey Overchuk has stated that Pakistan and Russia are “natural allies,” while President Vladimir Putin considers Pakistan an important strategic partner in the economic and energy sectors.
According to a statement released by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, a delegation led by Prime Minister’s Special Assistant on Foreign Affairs Tariq Fatemi, along with Special Assistant to the Prime Minister for Industries & Production and Focal Person for Pakistan Steel Mills Haroon Akhtar Khan, met with Russian Deputy Prime Minister Alexey Overchuk in Moscow.
Special Assistant Tariq Fatemi conveyed good wishes from Pakistan to the Russian Deputy Prime Minister and Russian leadership, emphasizing that the goodwill at the leadership level of both countries is ensuring a positive momentum in improving bilateral relations between Pakistan and Russia.
During the meeting, the parties thoroughly reviewed all aspects of bilateral relations in various areas of mutual interest, including political, trade, and economic cooperation, as well as energy, communication, industrial, and agricultural collaboration.
On this occasion, Tariq Fatemi stated that Pakistan attaches great importance to its relations with the Russian Federation, and strengthening ties with Russia is a key component of Pakistan’s foreign policy.
He also reiterated that Pakistan desires a stable role for Russia at the international level.
Speaking about the new steel mills project in Karachi, Prime Minister’s Special Assistant Haroon Akhtar said that this project is a symbol of the historical relations between Pakistan and Russia and a “big step” for future cooperation.
It’s worth noting that on May 13, Pakistan and Russia signed an agreement for the establishment of new steel mills in Karachi, which was announced in a press release by the Press Information Department (PID).
Both countries reviewed all areas of mutual interest, including political, trade, economic, energy, connectivity, industrial, and agricultural cooperation.
Additionally, the current geopolitical and regional situations in South Asia, Afghanistan, and the Middle East were discussed. In May, Russia also offered to mediate between India and Pakistan during India’s aggression against Pakistan.
