ISLAMABAD: Senior leader of the ruling party in Pakistan, Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), has issued a stern warning to the government to follow the orders of the Supreme Court and hold elections in the provinces of Punjab and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
Fawad Chaudhry warned that if the orders of the Supreme Court are not followed, the people of Pakistan will have no option but to resort to revolution.
The warning came after reports of apparent moves by the federal government aimed at employing tactics to either delay or not hold the elections at all, and to render the apex court as a toothless institution.
The provincial assemblies in both provinces, it may be recalled, were dissolved in January this year, and as per the Constitution of Pakistan, elections were to be held not later than 90 days after the dissolution date.
Taking to Twitter on Saturday, Fawad Chaudhry wrote, “If the order of the Supreme Court to hold elections is not followed and an attempt is made to make the Supreme Court a worthless institution like the Election Commission, then the people will have no other option but to resort to revolution. People will have to move towards Islamabad and wage struggle till the last breath.”
He further added that “till now, we have waged struggle within the ambit of the constitution, but if there is no constitution, there will be no limits to our struggle as well.”
Fawad Chaudhry advised the rulers to prioritize the constitution and refrain from pushing the masses against the wall.
