RAWALPINDI: The head of Awami Muslim League (AML) Sheikh Rashid Ahmed has severely criticized PPP leader Asif Zardari for his casual remarks about the country facing default threats.
Zardari, while addressing a workers’ convention in Punjab’s Vehari on Monday, had boasted that “Pakistan is not a public limited company which defaults and cannot recover,” adding that “Japan and other countries have defaulted in the past and default does not mean that the country is finished.”
Taking to Twitter on Wednesday, Sheikh Rasheed said Zardari said facing default was something usual or normal, it was because his all wealth had already been syphoned out of the country through ‘Dahi Balay wala’ (reference to street vendor and faluda seller who discovered millions and billions in their accounts without knowing the source of money).

Sheikh Rasheed in his series of tweets said the government was unable to strike a deal with the International Monetary Fund (IMF) for revival of the loan programme, adding: “Pakistan has been turned into a death zone for poor”.
He said the only problem the ruling coalition pays heed to was Imran Khan’s arrest and not inflation and economic decline. He further said that the attempt to arrest the former premier would cost the government gravely.
He expressed hope that a decision would be taken soon about holding elections in the country at the same time.
