Why are Pakistanis upset with Javed Akhtar during his visit to Lahore?

It seems like Indian screenwriter, lyricist, and poet Javed Akhtar has upset Pakistanis during his recent visit to Lahore.

It all started when the Indian screenwriter attended the Faiz Festival in Pakistan during which he took a dig at Pakistan regarding the 26/11 Mumbai terror attacks.

He could be seen reminding Pakistanis that the perpetrators of the 26/11 terror attacks were still roaming free, and to expect any Indian to not have any complaints about this would be unfair.

Responding to a person who asked Akhtar to take with him a message of peace, and to tell Indians that Pakistan is ‘a positive, friendly and loving country’, the writer said that there is a ‘communication blockade’ between the two nations.

“The atmosphere needs to cool down. I am from Bombay and all of us witnessed the attack on Bombay. The attackers weren’t from Norway, or from Egypt. They are still present in your country, so you should not be offended if an Indian complains about this,” he said addressing the gathering.

He also reminded the gathering that even though Pakistani artists such as Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan and Mehdi Hasan have been welcomed with open arms in India, however, Pakistan has never hosted a Lata Mangeshkar show.

His recent speech and anti-national remarks were not welcomed on Pakistani Twitter as celebrities and netizens decided to school him.

Javed Akhtar Sb is visiting Pakistan to attend the Faiz Festival & today openly was disgracing us saying that the Mumbai attackers are roaming free.He needs a brain check as the attackers were hanged.Shame on da people who were clapping. Mr javed akhtar would you mind shedding some light on Kashmir issue ? You shouldn’t have come if you have so much hatred for pakistan, we still let u go back safely & thats our answer to your nonsense #javedakhtar #goback #nonsense # pic.twitter.com/b7DCIdnH1o

For Javed Akhtar, pait-rotism is real.
Shame on the Pakistani idiots cheering him, ZERO self-respect. All these platforms giving space to people like JA need to introspect. A Pakistani family visiting Mumbai’s Haji Ali dargah slept on road as no hotel was willing to lodge them. https://t.co/b9tKkGReV6

Javed Akhtar brings up Mumbai attack during a talk at Faiz Festival in Lahore which could have been avoided! Why to bring this all up on a Literature Festival that too when you are visiting as a guest?#JavedAkhtar #FaizFestival pic.twitter.com/ruITjD03nQ

Hello Javed Akhtar! if “terrorists” were roaming freely in Pak, they would have done this to you what your “terrorists” did with Kulkarni in Mumbai in 2015. pic.twitter.com/rirsoqLA91
