RAWALPINDI: The Lahore High Court Rawalpindi Bench has cancelled bailable arrest warrants issued by the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) in a contempt case related to the electoral body.
The electoral body on Jan 19 rejected the exemption pleas and issued bailable arrest warrants of PTI Chairman Imran Khan and other party leaders for allegedly committing contempt of ECP, and ordered to arrest them by Jan 17۔
Reacting on the ECP verdict, PTI leader Fawad Chaudhry had termed it as contempt of High Court judgement, announcing to challenge the same.

The PTI leaders including Chairman Imran Khan, Fawad Chaudhry and Asad Umar challenged the Election Commission of Pakistan’s (ECP) arrest warrants in the Lahore High Court’s (LHC) Rawalpindi Bench today.
Justice Sadaqat Ali of the Lahore High Court Rawalpindi Bench heard the petition during which Advocate Faisal Chaudhry represented Imran Khan and Fawad Chaudhry.
Advocate Faisal Chaudhry argued that since ECP was not a constitutional court, it had no authority to issue arrest warrants.
On this occasion, Justice Sadaqat Ali passed remarks that the court was duty bound to deliver justice, however, some figures used to get relief from the court but on the other hand, criticize judiciary on media.
Justice Sadaqat Ali asked Advocate Faisal Chaudhry to tell his client Fawad Chaudhry not to put entire blame on judiciary, and warned that if his client gave any irresponsible statement, the court would take action.
After hearing the arguments, the LHC Rawalpindi Bench cancelled the ECP’s bailable arrest warrants.
