RAWALPINDI: The deadlock between Islamabad police and Punjab anti-corruption over the issue of arresting Federal Minister Rana Sanaullah continued on Monday.

The raiding party of Punjab anti-corruption approached Kohsar Police of Islamabad to seek their cooperation in arresting Federal Interior Minister Rana Sanaullah after renewed orders by Rawalpindi Judicial Magistrate.

The judicial magistrate on Monday issued fresh arrest warrants, ordering to arrest and produce Rana Sanaullah before the court, after a previous attempt to arrest him proved in vain on Saturday.

The anti-corruption of Punjab requested the court to declare Rana Sanaullah as proclaimed offender. The court, however, refused the plea and ordered them to arrest and produce him.

Soon after the issuance of fresh court orders, a team of anti-corruption Punjab left for Islamabad’s Kohsar area to implement the arrest warrants and apprehend Rana Sanaullah.

When contacted by the media, a member of the raiding anti-corruption party of Punjab speaking on condition of anonymity said they would proceed to the Federal Interior Ministry.

However, after interacting with the Secretariat Police Station personnel, the Punjab anti-corruption team alleged they have been denied cooperation by the local police to the extent that even their entry wasn’t registered.

The anti-corruption team alleged that the personnel of Islamabad police misbehaved with them, and their vehicles were taken out of the police station premises.

Reacting to this, the Islamabad Police issued statement denying allegations leveled by the Punjab anti-corruption team. A spokesperson for the Islamabad Police said not only the warrants were formally received, but the entry of the raiding party was also properly registered.

He further said that the team of anti-corruption Punjab was asked to adopt a legal course of action and provide record of the case, which didn’t happen at all.

The spokesperson advised the anti-corruption Punjab to resolve legal issues in legal manner and avoid issuing unnecessary statements.
