ISLAMABAD: Federal Cabinet has formerly decided to take legal action on audio leaks purportedly featuring former Prime Minister and PTI Chairman Imran Khan and his party leaders with regard to diplomatic cypher.
The cabinet approved initiating FIA probe and legal action over the audio leak about the cypher.
The cabinet on Friday suggested that legal action could be taken against the former prime minister and his party leaders after a steady stream of audio recordings surfaced.
On September 30, during a cabinet meeting, a special committee was established to look into the audio leak on Cypher. In a meeting on October 1st, the cabinet committee had recommended legal action.
A concise summary of the committee’s recommendations was provided to the cabinet for approval, and it was legally adopted.
The cabinet committee stated in its recommendations that “it is a question of national security, which could have major impact on the national interests.”
“This matter is necessarily required legal action. The FIA should constitute a probe committee comprises of senior officials,” the committee recommended. “The Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) could also bring the officers from intelligence agencies in the probe team”.
Moreover, the government revealed on Friday that that a copy of the cypher had gone “missing” from the Prime Minister House records, and the cabinet formed a special committee to decide what legal action should be taken against everyone involved, including the former prime minister, former principal secretary to prime minister Azam Khan, and senior ministers.
