LAHORE: Pakistan’s all-format captain Babar Azam will aim to become the fastest player overall to score 15 ODI tons when his side takes on Australia in the three-match one-day international series commencing from March 29 at Gaddafi Stadium, Lahore.
Babar, who is the number-one ranked player in the ICC ODI Rankings, can become the fastest batter ever to score 15 tons, if he scores a hundred in the next four innings. He has currently scored 14 tons in 83 ODIs.
South African legend Hashim Amla currently holds the record of fastest batter ever to score 15 centuries in ODI cricket. He took only 86 innings to achieve the feat. Former India captain Virat Kohli, who is second on the list, achieved the same feat in 106 innings.
Moreover, the world’s number one batter – who last featured in an ODI back in July 2022 – is just 15 runs away from completing 4,000 runs in the 50-over format.
If he manages to score 15 runs in the series, he can become the second quickest batter after Hashim Amla to achieve the feat. Amla scored over 4,000 runs in 81 innings.
Babar has so far scored 3985 runs in the same number of innings at an astonishing average of 56.92. The great Sir Vivian Richards, who is currently sitting at the second spot, managed to score over 4,000 runs in 88 innings.
