ISLAMABAD: Minister for Interior Sheikh Rashid Ahmed on Saturday asserted that voting on no-confidence motion against Prime Minister Imran Khan would likely to take place on April 4.

Addressing a press conference in Islamabad, the federal minister pointed out that the opposition has actually helped [Prime Minister] Imran Khan by bringing no-confidence motion and the premier’s popularity has increased manifold.

In response to a question, the interior minister told the journalists that he had advised PM Imran Khan to move towards early elections and draft a pro-poor budget for the people of Pakistan.

Taking a jibe at the Opposition, he said that they are “fools” because they played a major role in the popularity of Imran Khan.

Responding to a question about Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) MNA Jam Abdul Karim – who is nominated in a murder case in Sindh, the interior minister asserted that the lawmaker would be arrested upon arrival from Dubai.

He said according to the law, the PPP “should have sought bail from the court”, adding that the suspect is brought here ahead of the voting on the no-trust and he will be arrested at the airport as they have no order from the court regarding his bail.

“I have directed Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) and Sindh Inspector General of Police (IGP) to arrest PPP MNA Jam Abdul Karim from the airport,” Rashid added.

It is pertinent to mention here that the Sindh High Court on Friday granted 10-day protective bail to Karim in the Nazim Jokhio murder case, according to a newspaper report.

Talking about the Islamabad rallies, Rashid said that everyone is allowed to hold public gatherings in federal capital; however, according to the directions by the Supreme Court of Pakistan, no one will be allowed to enter the Red Zone.

“Nobody will be allowed to take the law into their hands as the apex court has tasked the interior ministry to maintain the law and order situation in the federal capital,” the minister highlighted.

Referring to the social media campaign against the national security agencies of Pakistan, Rasheed said that he has asked director-general FIA to arrest all those who were talking nonsense about the security forces of Pakistan.

NA session adjourned

A day earlier, the crucial National Assembly (NA) session, with a no-confidence motion against Prime Minister Imran Khan, on the agenda was adjourned till March 28 (Monday) without tabling of the resolution.

The session began with the recitation of the Holy Quran and prayers for late MNA Khayal Zaman, former president Rafiq Tarar and Senator Rehman Malik.

NA speaker Asad Qaiser announced that he was adjourning the session after ‘fatehakhwani’ as per the traditions of the lower house of parliament to show respect for departed MNA Khayal Zaman.

In response to the no-confidence motion, the NA speaker said he will allow the debate on the no-confidence motion as per the Constitution on Monday, March 28.
