KARACHI: Sindh Education and Literacy Department has started preparations to hand over historical and ancient school structure, located near Dalima area of Gulshan-e-Iqbal Town, to builders, it has emerged on Thursday.
According to details, Education Secretary Akbar Leghari also visited the school on Sunday, on the orders of provincial education minister – Sardar Shah, along with the builder and gave a complete brief of the 4,000 square-yard government plot.
The pre-partition structure, with a total area of 4,000 square-yard, is worth millions of rupees, where the builder wants to build a large shopping plaza and a 20-storey building, informed sources have claimed.
The Government Boys Primary and Secondary School is located near Manik Mai Kolachi Society, Dalmia, Gulshan-e-Iqbal Town. The architecture and design of the school structure indicate that it is a historic building before the formation of Pakistan, with a total area of 4,000 square yards.
Relevant sources further claimed that Akbar Leghari has asked the builder to submit a formal application in this regard, after which comments will be written and the application would be forwarded to law secretary. Later, the authority will approve the submitted application and hand over the school plot.
During the visit, the residents of the area complained to Education Secretary Akbar Leghari that land mafia had already occupied five rooms, almost 500 square-yard, of the government school. According to the residents, complaints were registered with education department but no legal action has been taken yet.
It is pertinent to mention here that the morning shift of Government Manik School has been shifted to Government Primary School Sindhi Mochi Para under a conspiracy, while the government officials have also started preparations to hand over another school plot to builders in the same area.
M.M news tried to approach Secretary Education School Akbar Leghari for comment in this regard, but his contact number was closed.
However, Director District Eastern Education (DEO) Yar Mohammad Baladi when contacted said that the matter of the said school is pending in the court. “Since the school’s case has been in court since 2009, no works and services have been carried out at the property since 2011,” he added.
