ISLAMABAD: Pakistan on Sunday recorded a massive decline in new COVID-19 cases as less than 500 daily infections were reported in the last 24 hours, data released by National Command and Operation Centre (NCOC) showed.
According to data, the national positivity rate — which was around 9 percent three months ago — was down to 1.08pc on Sunday. A total of 22,810 active cases were recorded in the country, out of which 1,233 were critical.

As per the government’s data, 43,348 tests were conducted in the last 24 hours across the country, out of which 471 returned positive, pushing the nationwide tally of such cases to 1,276,711.
Meanwhile, the country’s death toll climbed to 28,538 after 20 more people succumbed to the virus in a single day. In addition to this, 493 more people recovered from the virus in the last 24 hours, taking the tally of recoveries to 1,225,363.
Meanwhile, Minister for Planning, Development and Special Initiatives Asad Umar, who also heads the NCOC, attributed the success against coronavirus to teamwork.
In his tweet, the minister said: “There are a number of learnings from the NCOC experience, having huge implications for the way governance is carried out. However, the most important of these is not new. Just reinforced by the Covid experience … If Pakistan plays as one team, we win.”
