Unfortunately, in our country, one serious drawback of the administration of justice is a delay and Umme Rubab is the latest victim of it.
Advocate by designation, Umme Rubab Chandio has been seeking justice for the murders of her father, uncle, and grandfather that occurred in Mehar city over three years now.
Who is Umme Rubab?
Umme Rubab is the daughter of Mukhtiar Chandio who along with his family members was gunned down on 17th January 2018, within the remit of Faridabad police station, Mehar taluka of Dadu district.
Umme Rubab’s family was killed in January 2018 for raising voice against the feudal system. Her family mainly her father, brother, grandfather, and uncle were killed by the Pakistan People Party minister of the provincial assembly Sardar Chandio and his brother Burhan Chandio.
Umme Rubab belongs to a small village of Sindh. Even with three deaths in her family, she refused to bow down and declared a battle against people, who wanted her to be imprisoned.
The appeal
In May 2018, Umme Rubab Chandio appealed to the Chief Justice of Pakistan to provide justice, when Chief Justice of Pakistan Justice Saqib Nisar (at the time he was chief justice) arrived at the Supreme Court’s Karachi Registry in the morning to hear the case, Umme Rubab, along with her other relatives, tried to block his vehicle.
Umme Rubab sat there after failing in her attempt and she refused to leave. She appealed to the Chief Justice of Pakistan to ensure the arrest of her father’s killers and protect her along with her family.
The attack
Umme Rubab’s car was recently hit by the Chandios and she met with an accident last week, she alleged that the accusers are trying to kill her and this is an ‘attempt to harm’ but she escaped safely. In this regard, the hashtag #SaveUmmeRubab also started trending in solidarity with Rubab on Twitter.
The condemn
Many social media users have condemned the attack on her with different alarming questions in which one of them was ‘How long will criminals continue to roam free and Umme Rubab Chandio will continue to beg for justice from this apathetic society?’
Another user asked the prime minister: ‘Mr. Prime Minister Imran Khan, the lack of justice and the root cause of all human rights issues in Sindh is the 18th amendment in the Constitution of Pakistan. When will UmmeRubab get justice?
‘I stand with Umme Rubab and request the so-called journalists, liberals, social activists, and social reformers to raise voice for her too. She is a woman also needs to be protected with justification,’ another one demanded.
The action
Rubab has prosecuted the war against the most powerful system of our society. Her fight is multi-dimensional and her struggle is far-reaching.
She is not only fighting for her family and country’s retched ‘egalitarianism’, but she is also confronting the country’s biggest curse i.e. Pakistan’s feudalism.
Although, the journey to justice is full of challenges in Pakistan but let’s hope this daughter of the nation gets justice.
