A district and sessions court in Multan has sentenced two men to life imprisonment in a 2024 gang rape case, while acquitting three other accused due to lack of evidence
The case involved a 27-year-old girl who earned her living by decorating women’s hands with henna.
She was allegedly lured to a house on the pretext of a mehndi appointment, where she was subjected to sexual assault.
The incident led to the registration of a case at a women’s police station under charges including abduction and rape.
Additional District and Sessions Judge Imran Shafi handed down life sentences to the main convicts, identified as Hassan Mahmood and Abdul Rehman.
The court also imposed a fine of 100,000 rupees on each convict and ordered them to pay 50,000 rupees as compensation to the victim.
The judgment stated that failure to pay the fine would result in an additional six months of imprisonment.
Meanwhile, the court acquitted three co-accused, including a woman alleged to have made the initial call to the victim, giving them the benefit of the doubt due to insufficient evidence.
