KARACHI: Shah Latif Police have arrested a highly educated member of an inter-provincial drug network that smuggled narcotics into the city concealed inside computer hardware.
The suspect, Ahmed Ali, belongs to Ahmedpur Sharqia in Bahawalpur and holds a Master’s degree in Computer Science. He is also fluent in German. Police say he moved to Karachi a year ago, telling officials he came to study the language.
SHO Shah Latif Mumtaz Marwat said the gang ran an online operation. Drug shipments arrived from Quetta and Peshawar via courier, packed inside hard drives, routers, and other computer parts.
“These were online orders. The suspect would receive the parcels, open the electronics, remove pills and weed, and then supply them to buyers across Karachi,” Marwat told ARY News.
Police footage showed narcotics hidden inside disassembled hardware, and small plastic pouches filled with colorful “dancing pills” and weed. The drugs were mainly supplied to Gulshan, Defence, Malir, and Johar for parties targeting young people.
Ahmed Ali was arrested from Sector 22 of Shah Latif Town. During the press briefing, he introduced himself in German at the request of reporters and confirmed his educational background.
SHO Marwat said the suspect had “ruined his future” despite his qualifications. “This gang was systematically targeting youth. One member is in custody, but the network is still being traced,” he added.
Police seized a large quantity of narcotics along with computer parts used for smuggling. Officials said the investigation will now focus on other members of the network, courier trails, and online payment methods used to place orders.
Police officials told MM News that the crackdown on inter-provincial drug networks operating through courier services is likely to continue.
