Sindh Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah has decided to provide cheaper electricity to underprivileged areas and industrial zones in Karachi.
During a meeting held yesterday at the Chief Minister House with K-Electric Chairman Shahryar Chishti, the Chief Minister issued directives in this regard.
The meeting was attended by K-Electric CEO Syed Taha, PSCM Agha Wasif, Energy Secretary Shoaib Ansari, and other officials.
The Chief Minister instructed the Energy Department and K-Electric to conduct a joint study on a targeted subsidy program for electricity consumers in Karachi.
He also directed the preparation of proposals to provide affordable electricity to low-income areas and industrial zones, while stressing the need to reduce load-shedding in underprivileged neighborhoods with the onset of summer.
Expressing concern over prolonged power outages in low-income areas, Murad Ali Shah said that the difficulties of the poor have increased with rising temperatures, and practical solutions must be found to reduce load-shedding, especially in poorer localities.
He further directed that a targeted subsidy program be explored for Karachi electricity consumers to provide relief to deserving households.
Meanwhile, announced load-shedding in various parts of Karachi has increased to over 12 hours, with even exempted areas experiencing several hours of power outages.
