ISLAMABAD: The administration of the Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences (PIMS) has released an official statement confirming that former Prime Minister Imran Khan underwent a planned medical procedure for a persistent eye condition during his latest hospital transfer.
According to the press release issued on April 28, 2026, Khan was brought to the facility to receive a fourth dose of an Anti-VEGF intravitreal injection. The procedure, conducted as a “daycare surgery,” was aimed at treating central retinal vein occlusion.

Ophthalmology experts reported that the patient remained “medically stable” throughout the process, with Optical Coherence Tomography (OCT) scans showing visible medical improvement. The administration emphasized that the procedure was performed in an operating theater with Khan’s full awareness and prior consent.
Patterns of “Nocturnal” Transfers
Despite the clinical clarity provided by the hospital, the timing of the move has sustained political friction. For reasons best known to the government and jail administration, Khan’s medical treatment continues to be shrouded in utmost secrecy, with all hospital visits to date conducted under the cover of night. This pattern has fueled persistent allegations from the PTI leadership regarding the lack of transparency and the exclusion of the former premier’s personal physicians.
Discharge and Future Care
Following the procedure, Khan was returned to Adiala Jail with a comprehensive set of discharge instructions and follow-up guidance. While the PIMS medical board maintains that the former prime minister is receiving optimal care, his legal team continues to argue that the “nocturnal” nature of these transfers obscures the full reality of his health status from his family and the public.
