The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has forecast a mild heatwave in the southern parts of the country from April 29 to May 3 in its latest weather report.
According to the PMD, temperatures in southern Punjab, upper Sindh, and southern and eastern Balochistan are currently 2 to 4 degrees Celsius above normal and may rise further during the forecast period.
These regions are typically heat-prone, where temperatures in May and June often range between 43°C and 45°C, occasionally reaching up to 52°C during intense heatwaves.
The meteorological office also said that global climate indicators such as ENSO and the Indian Ocean Dipole are currently neutral. However, there is a 61% probability of El Nino conditions developing between May and July.
Meanwhile, upper parts of the country are expected to experience the effects of western weather systems from the night of April 27 to April 29, and again from May 3 to May 5, which could lower temperatures by 2 to 4 degrees Celsius.
The PMD said it is closely monitoring the situation and will issue further updates if the heatwave intensifies.
