WASHINGTON: Authorities have identified the suspect in Saturday night’s shooting at the White House Correspondents’ Dinner as Cole Tomas Allen, 31, of Torrance, California, as federal investigators shift their focus to how a gunman managed to smuggle a weapon into the high-security event.

The incident, which occurred at the Washington Hilton, sent hundreds of journalists, celebrities, and high-ranking government officials diving for cover just as the evening’s program was beginning.
The Incident and Suspect
Law enforcement officials say Allen was taken into custody inside the hotel after allegedly opening fire near the magnetometer screening area.
– Weaponry: Investigators believe Allen managed to enter an unsecured back room of the hotel, where he reportedly assembled a long weapon before moving toward the security checkpoint.
– Video Evidence: Footage circulating on social media shows U.S. Secret Service agents pinning an individual to the ground in a hallway inside the Hilton. Sources confirm this individual is believed to be the shooter.
– Casualties: One law enforcement officer was struck in the chest during the exchange. Authorities confirmed the officer was wearing a ballistic vest, which absorbed the impact; no life-threatening injuries have been reported.
Safety of Protectees
