The government of Punjab has made the registration of pet dogs mandatory in both urban and rural areas, issuing an official form for the purpose.
Under the new directives, individuals keeping dogs in homes, farms or neighbourhoods must provide complete records of their pets.
The registration form requires details such as the owner’s name, the dog’s breed and other essential information.
Sources say that vaccination of pet dogs will also be compulsory, with citizens required to approach livestock authorities for the process.
In addition, taking dogs into public places without restraint has been banned, and owners have been instructed to keep them on a leash.
The government has made it clear that legal action will be taken against those who fail to comply with these orders. These measures aim to ensure the safety of the public, particularly children.
