Security has been placed on high alert in Islamabad following reports of the arrival of an Iranian delegation, led by the Foreign Minister, for potential negotiations.
The heightened security comes amid expectations of a second round of talks between Iran and the United States, with the Iranian delegation set to arrive.
Entry into Islamabad’s Red Zone remains restricted, and police personnel have been directed to report to duty.
Public transport, including the metro bus service, has been suspended in the twin cities of Islamabad and Rawalpindi.
Earlier, the government had instructed that offices located in the Red Zone remain closed, with employees working from home. Transport access to the area has also been limited.
It is worth noting that Iran’s Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi is expected to arrive in Islamabad today leading the delegation, a development confirmed by Iran’s state news agency.
Media reports also suggest that a US delegation may depart for Pakistan following the Iranian delegation’s visit.
