ISLAMABAD: The federal government has announced a nationwide public holiday on May 1 (Friday) on account of Labour Day, offering citizens a welcome three-day weekend.
A notification issued by the government confirmed that all public and private offices, educational institutions and business centres will remain closed on the day to honour the contributions of workers and the labour force.
With May 1 falling on a Friday, the official holiday will be followed by the routine weekend on Saturday and Sunday, allowing people to enjoy an extended break.
It is pertinent to mention here that Pakistan observes Labour Day each year to express solidarity with workers and to promote their rights, welfare and well-being — a tradition that this year comes with an added opportunity for rest and recreation for the public.
