ISLAMABAD: Pakistan has intensified diplomatic pressure on Iran to return to the negotiating table, issuing a stern warning to Tehran that the window for diplomatic resolution is rapidly closing, even as technical teams continue to refine a potential agreement intended to end the conflict between the United States and Iran.

Despite an extension of the current ceasefire, a scheduled second round of talks in the Pakistani capital has yet to materialize. According to reports from Al Arabiya’s correspondent in Islamabad, the deadlock persists as Pakistan struggles to reconcile a defiant Iranian leadership with an increasingly impatient Washington.

The diplomatic push is being led at the highest levels of the Pakistani establishment. Al Arabiya reports that the Pakistani Army Chief has been in direct communication with Iranian leadership to facilitate a breakthrough. Simultaneously, the Prime Minister has received the Iranian Ambassador to Islamabad to formally discuss the “negotiation pathway” and relay the urgency of the situation.

Al Arabiya quoted sources in Islamabad as indicating that while Pakistan remains in “constant communication” with Tehran, Islamabad has signaled a shift in its role from a patient mediator to an active driver of the process. Government officials have reportedly warned Iran of the “depletion of the timeframe” for negotiations, stating that Pakistan will not wait indefinitely for a formal stance from the Iranian side.
The primary hurdle remains the maritime standoff in the Persian Gulf. Al Arabiya reports that Iran has officially informed Pakistani mediators of its total rejection of the continued U.S. naval blockade, which Tehran views as a violation of the existing ceasefire terms.
For Tehran, the lifting of the blockade is a non-negotiable prerequisite for returning to Islamabad. Conversely, Washington has maintained the blockade as its primary economic lever, leading to what analysts call a “strategic paralysis” in the talks.
While high-level political talks are stalled, the technical machinery of diplomacy continues to turn. Al Arabiya, quoting an Arab envoy to Islamabad, noted that “work continues on the items of the potential agreement” between the U.S. and Iran.
“The technical framework is being built, but the political will to sit at the table is currently absent,” the envoy was quoted as saying.
According to Middle East observers, with the ceasefire extension providing only a temporary reprieve, the lack of a confirmed date for a second round of talks has left the region in a state of high tension.
