LAHORE: A key development was witnessed in the rape case involving YouTuber Rajab Butt and other accused individuals at a sessions court in Lahore, although formal charges could not be framed during today’s hearing.
The case was heard by Additional Sessions Judge Yasar Arafat. The accused, including Rajab Butt, Jahangir, Jawad Ali and Abdul Rehman, appeared before the court.
During the proceedings, the court had already provided copies of the challan to the accused at the previous hearing, with expectations that charges would be formally framed today.
However, during the hearing, defence counsel Rana Abdul Ma’roof presented arguments, while the complainant’s lawyer requested additional time to prepare submissions. The court accepted the request and granted time to the complainant’s counsel for further arguments.
The hearing was subsequently adjourned until 27 April, with the indictment now expected at the next date.
It is pertinent to note that the court had earlier summoned the accused for framing of charges, and copies of the challan were also provided in the previous session.
The case alleges that the accused invited a woman to a residence where she was allegedly subjected to sexual assault.
