DHAKA: Bangladesh Women’s cricket team, the Tigresses, stand firm on the brink of a groundbreaking series victory over Sri Lanka after a thrilling three-wicket triumph in the 1st ODI on April 19 in Rajshahi.
Captain Nigar Sultana’s side chased down 206 with Sharmin Akhter’s masterful unbeaten 86 anchoring the chase, despite a nervy finish. As the 2nd ODI looms, the Tigresses eye an unassailable lead, buoyed by their first-ever WODI win against Sri Lanka—signaling a new era of dominance in South Asian women’s cricket.
Sri Lanka managed 205/9, led by half-centuries from Hansima Karunaratne and Imesha Dulani, but Bangladesh’s bowlers, spearheaded by Ritu Moni’s 3-36, kept them in check.
With Sobhana Mostary (41) and Shorna Akter (35) stepping up, the Tigresses are primed to seal the series and cement their rising stature ahead of global tournaments.
