The arrest came hours after a CCTV clip of the brazen daylight robbery targeting a young woman in one of Lahore’s upscale residential neighbourhoods went viral on social media, triggering widespread public outrage and prompting Chief Minister Punjab Maryam Nawaz to personally intervene and order police to apprehend the accused within eight hours — a deadline that ultimately yielded results.
The Incident
The 24-second CCTV clip, recorded in the OPF Society (Overseas Pakistanis Foundation Housing Society) in Lahore, shows a young girl riding a motorcycle through a residential street when a motorbike-riding snatcher suddenly pulls up alongside her. As the robber attempts to seize her mobile phone or bag, the girl resists — causing her to fall to the ground. Clad in a light-green shalwar kameez and black dupatta, she is seen lying on the road for several seconds before quickly rising to her feet. Visibly shaken, she stands in the middle of the street, raises her hand — apparently signalling for help — before walking away. The robber, accompanied by an accomplice on a separate motorbike visible in the background, flees the scene.

The victim’s father subsequently registered a First Information Report (FIR) with local police, submitting the CCTV footage as primary evidence.
Viral Outrage
The footage spread rapidly across Instagram, Facebook, and X, drawing thousands of reactions from citizens expressing deep concern over deteriorating street safety — even within gated and upscale residential communities. Many users questioned how such crimes could occur in broad daylight in areas considered relatively secure, calling for urgent action from law enforcement.
CM Maryam Takes Notice
Chief Minister Punjab Maryam Nawaz took stern notice of the incident, expressing strong displeasure over the robbery and directing Lahore Police to apprehend the accused without delay.
“It is extremely distressing and regrettable that an incident of robbery has occurred with any daughter,” she said, adding: “Daughters and sisters are a red line. We will fulfil the promise of protection under all circumstances.”
The Chief Minister issued an eight-hour deadline to police for the arrest of the perpetrators — a directive that set off an intensive law enforcement operation across the city.
Accused Arrested, Accomplice at Large
Acting swiftly on the Chief Minister’s orders, police utilised geo-fencing technology alongside a review of CCTV footage to trace the primary accused, identified as Adnan Chohan. In a dramatic turn of events, Chohan was found in an injured condition — having reportedly been shot by his own accomplice during a falling-out following the robbery. He was subsequently taken into custody and transferred to hospital for medical treatment.
His accomplice, however, managed to evade capture and remains at large. Police have confirmed that a manhunt is underway.
Prior to the arrest, law enforcement had already established checkpoints across relevant areas of the city and initiated a thorough review of available surveillance footage.
