ISLAMABAD: Pakistan and the U.S. have discussed strengthening economic cooperation—including investment in energy and minerals, macroeconomic stabilization, IMF support, and AML/CFT collaboration.
This was diclosed in a statement released by federal Finance Ministry here on Saturday.
The statement says that the Federal Minister for Finance and Revenue Senator Muhammad Aurangzeb met with Francis Brooke, Deputy Secretary at the U.S. Department of the Treasury, on the sidelines of the World Bank–IMF Spring Meetings in Washington, D.C. The meeting provided a platform to review Pakistan’s ongoing macroeconomic stabilization efforts, plans for re‑entering international capital markets, and its external debt management strategy.
Aurangzeb highlighted investment opportunities in Pakistan’s minerals and energy sectors and updated Treasury officials on progress toward regulating digital and virtual assets. Both delegations explored avenues for bilateral cooperation in energy and mineral development, and pledged to deepen technical engagement on strengthening Pakistan’s anti‑money laundering and countering the financing of terrorism (AML/CFT) framework.
The finance minister underscored the long‑standing economic ties between the two countries and stressed the importance of continued U.S. support for Pakistan’s programme with the International Monetary Fund. Both sides expressed readiness to maintain dialogue and pursue collaborative initiatives in the coming months.
