The Sindh Cabinet has approved a new digital attendance system aimed at improving student presence in schools by introducing unique identification numbers and a mandatory mobile app-based monitoring mechanism.
The initiative is designed to reduce absenteeism and dropout rates through real-time tracking and enhanced oversight across the province.
A cabinet meeting was held under the chairmanship of Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah, during which officials were briefed on the Student Attendance Monitoring System.
According to a spokesperson, the system aims to reduce absenteeism and dropout rates.
The cabinet also decided that every student will be assigned a unique identification number, and daily attendance will be recorded through a mobile application.
The Chief Minister said that continuous absenteeism will trigger alerts for teachers, while monitoring will be carried out through live dashboards at both provincial and district levels.
The system will be operated through teachers’ personal mobile phones, and data expenses will be included in school budgets.
Murad Ali Shah was also briefed on a proposal to launch 20,000 scholarships for public universities. He said that the goal is to equip young people with technical skills aligned with the digital economy.
Earlier, the government of Sindh has banned the sale of uniforms and textbooks within private schools across the province.
