MUZAFFARABAD: Police in Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK) arrested an alleged agent of India’s external intelligence agency RAW on Thursday for reportedly collecting and sharing sensitive information, Inspector General of Police AJK said.
The AJK IG told reporters the suspect was apprehended after an investigation revealed he had been contacted in June 2025 by a person identified as Shahid, who approached him through social media and offered paid online work. The contact, the IG said, later moved to WhatsApp.
Police allege the accused complied with Shahid’s instructions to photograph and record movements of military vehicles and other locations in Gujranwala, and to transmit those images and videos.
Investigators further claim the suspect installed a mobile application at Shahid’s behest and used it to record videos of sensitive sites and to share precise location data.
Authorities said the arrested individual confessed to the activities during questioning and that further probe is under way to determine the full extent of the network and recipients of the material. No further details on the suspect’s identity, exact charges filed, or evidence presented were released at the time.
Senior police officials said coordinated inquiries with relevant security agencies are continuing and that any persons found involved will face prosecution under applicable laws relating to espionage and national security.
