Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz has approved a special electric bike project for government employees, enabling them to purchase e-bikes through easy instalments.
The decision was made during a high-level meeting on the transport sector chaired by the chief minister, where several initiatives aimed at providing modern, comfortable and environmentally friendly travel facilities received in-principle approval.
The chief minister approved the provision of new electric buses in 10 districts, including Attock, Bhakkar, Hafizabad, Khanewal, Layyah, Sheikhupura, Gujranwala, Sialkot, Mandi Bahauddin and Okara.
Officials said 100 electric buses will arrive during the current month, followed by 350 by mid-May and another 264 by the end of June.
It was also decided that dedicated bus depots will be established in every division to support the electric fleet.
