Gas prices likely rise in Pakistan as Sui Southern Gas Company Limited and Sui Northern Gas Pipelines Limited have proposed major increases in gas tariffs for the 2026–27 fiscal year, citing rising costs and mounting financial gaps.
As per reports, SNGPL has requested a rise of about 21%, while SSGCL is seeking a much larger increase of 121%.
In addition to this, SSGCL has asked to recover more than Rs545 billion in past “unrecovered shortfalls.” When these previous losses are included, the company’s total requested increase in prescribed gas prices rises sharply to 286%, according to a summary of petitions prepared by the Oil and Gas Regulatory Authority.
Ogra has scheduled a public hearing on April 22 to review SSGCL’s request. The company has proposed raising its prescribed price by Rs3,935 per million British thermal units (MMBTU), which represents a 121% increase.
It wants the current government-notified rate of Rs1,777 per unit to be increased to Rs6,855 for FY27. This figure includes past unrecovered amounts, bringing the total proposed increase to Rs5,078 per unit, or 286%, to meet a revenue requirement of Rs1.28 trillion.
