The Pakistan–Iran Transit Corridor has been formally launched, with import goods reaching the Iranian region of Rimdan from Gwadar, from where they will proceed onwards to Central Asian countries.
According to a statement issued by Pakistan Customs, the first export consignment from Karachi has been dispatched to Tashkent. The initial shipment consists of frozen meat transported via the new trade route, entering Iran through the Rimdan border before heading towards Central Asian states.
The spokesperson stated that this development establishes a new overland trade corridor from Pakistan to Central Asia via Iran, effectively reducing reliance on Afghanistan for regional access.
The corridor has been developed under the TIR system, providing an alternative and efficient land route for exports to Iran and Central Asia.
Officials noted that the initiative is expected to boost trade activity, reduce transit times, and create new opportunities for Pakistan’s industry and commerce sectors.
