The Punjab government has launched the province’s first free deceased transport service, aimed at supporting grieving families by providing dignified and cost-free transportation of bodies from hospitals to homes.
The service operates completely free of charge, with strict instructions issued to Rescue 1122 staff not to accept any money or tips from citizens. It is available 24 hours a day, seven days a week.
Families can access the facility by calling the emergency helpline 1122 or by visiting dedicated service desks set up at government hospitals across the province.

In the first phase, the service has been made operational within city limits in Lahore, Rawalpindi, and Multan.
Authorities have announced plans to expand the initiative to all tehsils of Punjab by June 2026, ensuring at least one dedicated van in each tehsil. The service will also be available for inter-city transportation when required.
According to officials, trained and uniformed rescue staff will handle all procedures with dignity and care, and may also provide basic emotional support to bereaved families. The operations are monitored through a smart dispatch and rescue management system to ensure transparency and efficiency.
The service also includes arrangements for transferring bodies to hospital morgues when necessary, further streamlining post-hospital procedures for families in distress.
