A meeting of the federal cabinet was held in Islamabad under the chairmanship of Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, where the country’s political, economic and security situation was reviewed.
According to sources, the Prime Minister briefed cabinet members on Pakistan’s efforts in facilitating the US–Iran negotiations. The federal cabinet commended his role, as well as the contributions of Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar and Field Marshal Asim Munir.
Addressing the meeting, Shehbaz Sharif stated that Pakistan would continue to play its role in promoting lasting peace in the region, adding that efforts to resolve outstanding issues between the United States and Iran were ongoing.
He emphasised that Pakistan had played a key role in bringing both sides together, noting that it was the first time in 47 years that high-level delegations from the two countries engaged in direct talks.
He added that both the American and Iranian delegations travelled to Pakistan at Islamabad’s request, and expressed gratitude to their respective leaders.
The Prime Minister said that Pakistan’s diplomatic efforts had helped maintain the ceasefire and provided an opportunity to turn the threat of conflict into a path towards peace.
He revealed that the talks lasted 21 hours, during which both delegations held separate yet coordinated discussions and expressed appreciation for Pakistan’s role.
He also praised the efforts of Ishaq Dar and his team, as well as Field Marshal Asim Munir and his team, acknowledging their tireless work throughout the process.
Sharif remarked that their contributions would be remembered in history and that Pakistan had earned a rare level of international recognition for its mediation efforts.
