GWADAR: A patrolling vessel belonging to the Pakistan Coast Guards (PCG) came under a deadly attack at sea near the coastal town of Jiwani in Balochistan’s Gwadar district, officials reported earlier today.
The incident, which occurred in the waters near the Pak-Iran border, has resulted in the deaths of three security personnel.
Sources within the security forces have confirmed the identities of the deceased. The fallen personnel have been identified as Naik Afzal, Sepoy Jameel and Sepoy Umair.
Details surrounding the nature of the engagement remain sparse. It is currently unclear whether the boat was targeted by an improvised explosive device (IED), long-range fire, or a maritime ambush.
Authorities have cordoned off the area, and a high-level investigation is reportedly underway to determine the perpetrators behind the assault. No group has yet claimed responsibility for the attack.
It is pertinent to mention here that Jiwani is a critical maritime location, situated strategically near the mouth of the Gulf of Oman and bordering Iran. The area frequently sees high-intensity patrolling due to its proximity to international borders and its role in countering regional smuggling and militancy.
