The Associated Press cites the White House as saying Vice President JD Vance and other US officials have met in person with Iran’s delegation in Islamabad.
Sources close to the mediation as saying the US and Iranian sides had begun direct negotiations for the first time.
Hundreds of journalists are currently at Islamabad’s flagship convention centre, which Pakistani authorities have converted into a media hub for the ceasefire talks.
Inside, the centre is a wedding-banquet style spread of biryani, kebabs and gulab jamun, along with gourmet coffee blended from Brazilian and Ethiopian beans.
“We did the branding [‘Brewed for Peace’] just for the day,” one person manning the stall said.
Outside the hall, musicians played folk songs on a small stage. “I’m bored out of my mind,” one journalist said, declining to be named.
