Iranian delegation hasn’t left for Islamabad ceasefire talks with US: Fars News

The Iranian delegation has not arrived in Islamabad for ceasefire talks with US and has no plans to attend them until Israel stops bombing Lebanon, Iran’s Fars News Agency reported, citing a knowledgeable source.

Quoting the unnamed source, the agency claimed that Iran has officially informed Pakistani authorities that it will not participate in peace talks with the US in Islamabad until a ceasefire is established in Lebanon.

Earlier, Iranian Parliament Speaker Mohammad Baqer Qalibaf said a ceasefire in Lebanon and the release of Iran’s blocked assets are requisite to the commencement of negotiations with the United States in the Pakistani capital of Islamabad.

Qalibaf made the remark in a post on his X account on Friday as Tehran and Washington are scheduled to hold a fresh round of talks in Islamabad on Saturday to effectively put an end to the war jointly launched by the US and Israel against the Islamic Republic late last month.

Two of the measures mutually agreed upon between the parties have yet to be implemented: a ceasefire in Lebanon and the release of Iran’s blocked assets prior to the commencement of negotiations.

These two matters must be fulfilled before negotiations begin.

The top Iranian parliamentarian said there are two measures agreed upon by both sides which have not been implemented yet. He urged that “a ceasefire in Lebanon and the release of Iran’s blocked assets” are conditions to the commencement of negotiations.

“These two matters must be fulfilled before negotiations begin,” Qalibaf pointed out.

Meanwhile, Iranian Deputy Foreign Minister for Political Affairs Majid Takht Ravanchi said the upcoming negotiations with the United States in Pakistan will be based on the 10-point ceasefire plan proposed by Iran.

Iran’s Deputy Foreign Minister Takht-Ravanchi:

🔺 Iran’s ten-point proposal has been agreed as the basis for talks.

🔺 Iran supports diplomacy and dialogue, but rejects talks based on misinformation or any process that could pave the way for renewed aggression.
