Saudi Foreign Minister Prince Faisal bin Farhan spoke by phone with his Iranian counterpart Abbas Araghchi, the Saudi foreign ministry said on Thursday.
It is the first official contact between the two countries since Tehran carried out strikes on Gulf neighbors in response to Israeli-American attacks.
According to a statement from the Saudi Foreign Ministry, the discussion centered on recent developments and explored ways to ease tensions in order to restore security and stability in the region. The call came a day after a two-week ceasefire between Iran and the United States was announced.
Meanwhile, Pakistan’s role in mediating the temporary US–Iran ceasefire has gained international recognition.
Islamabad’s envoy to Washington, Rizwan Saeed Sheikh, said the breakthrough was the result of sustained and intensive diplomatic efforts over recent weeks.

He stressed that Pakistan’s involvement was built on mutual trust, careful engagement with all parties, and a commitment to maintaining confidentiality.
In an interview with CNN on Wednesday, he spoke as Washington confirmed it would send a senior delegation, led by Vice President J.D. Vance, to Islamabad to initiate formal negotiations aimed at ending hostilities following the ceasefire declared earlier that day.
